When the whole country is in the turmoil because of political instability, failure of promulgation of constitution, lack of security, regular road accident that claims of hundreds of lives every ween, loadshedding, and so many other things, there is nothing to cheer about except Nepali cricket. It is because they have been playing quality cricket and have already bagged two big titles home within a month. It, for people like us who look for silver lining in the black cloud, gives something to be happy about and be proud of.
Talking about the cricket, it was obviously creeping till some years back. Now, they are about to make a leap but will the effort at their personal level be sufficient. If Nepal thinks of being proud of cricket for a long time and see them playing with test playing nation, CAN has to make some solid movements i.e. make international level cricket grounds with different wickets; construct physical facilities where players can practice even during rain, fog or mist. On top of all the government has to be serious about developing sports. Though the government is locked in whirlpool of political power, the bureaucrat can think about it and keep the development of cricket in the development plan.
Similarly, the government in coordination with CAN has to plan for some better monetary benefits for the coach and the players. They also have to think about appointing bowling and batting coach who regularly work with players like Khakurel, Mandal, Bhattarai and Baskota (who are going to be the pillars of senior cricket after some years) to shape their bowling and batting because they are young and are full of potentials.
Likewise, CAN has to haunt for talent regularly. They also have to think about the Neapali expat kids who play quality cricket in different countries like India, Canada, US at university and club level. On top of all, they have to think about retaining the players like Bardan Chalise ( who is in the US now working as a financial manager) in the team because quality players like him would be another asset like Captain Parash Khadka and Shakti Gauchan for the team and that would strengthen the team.
Next, CAN also has to think about pacers. Some quality pacers. The best way to find pacers would be doing talent haunt at school level or regional levels. When I played cricket at school, I found some students very good at pace bowling. You can't imagine to bat their, at least four/five, overs because they throw ball constantly at the the same length and line at a very good speed. Then,CAN could train those bowlers.
The other thing that CAN could do is organizing school level cricket matches at a regular interval and having each school (with at least 500 hundred plus students) develop at least one club and have them participate in matches in district, zonal and regional level and have them compete in national level. This would be a great strategy to develop cricketers. This would give them hints of good players who could be called for further training. For this CAN could just take help of media house like NAGARIK NEWS who have always prioritized Nepali cricket to some extent (compared to other media houses). School kids would be more than happy to buy a bat and ball to play cricket if they see their future in it.
